2024 Fantasy Outlook
We enter a new realm for Harper on draft day as we are forced to consider him as part of the first base pool now as he lost his outfield eligibility last year and with the announced divestiture from Rhys Hoskins, maybe permanently. Harper got off to an expected slow start in the power department coming off his surgery with just five homers through the end of July before he got red hot over the final two months with 16 homers and 41 RBIs capped with a 10 homer August around a .361 average. Once Harper got into his groove, everything fell back into place and he was his normal self as the final numbers show. We can excuse his lowest slugging percentage since 2018 to the post-surgical rust, but everything else looks as good as it ever was. The next hurdle is him resuming his 140+ game workload after two seasons of falling short of that much-needed mark given his lofty annual draft status. Read Past Outlooks

Harper is batting .321 with four homers, 15 RBI, 14 runs and two stolen bases through 15 contests in May.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Move back to RF unlikely
Harper said Sunday he doesn't expect to move back to right field later in his career, reports Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old indicated staying at first base wasn't his preference but didn't want to stand in the way of what's best for the team. Harper split time between designated hitter and first base last season in his first full campaign after Tommy John surgery, and it appears a move back to the outfield won't be happening anytime soon. He looked mostly like his usual self at the plate in 2023 with 21 home runs, 11 steals and a .900 OPS in 126 contests.

Harper did not have the elite level of production he had over previous seasons, but 2022 was excellent even in an unfortunate smaller sample. An elbow injury in April would have ended his season if not for the Universal DH rule, but a Blake Snell fastball off the hand put him back on the IL until August at which time he finished the season as the DH and took the Phillies to the World Series. It was announced in November that he would have Tommy John surgery surgery and miss the start of the 2023 season. The plan is for Harper to return to designated hitter duties around the All-Star break and possibly return to playing right field toward the end of the season. Once he's back, he will be UT-only in most formats, and it shouldn't be assumed he will regain outfield eligibility in 2023. The per-game production should remain strong, but his return timeline puts a significant damper on his outlook.
