In mix for early-season saves
Mayza might be of a closer by committee for the Blue Jays early in the season while Jordan Romano (elbow) and Erik Swanson (forearm) are sidelined, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports
ANALYSIS
Mayza should probably be third in priority for fantasy managers here, but he could be manager John Schneider's pick when the opposition has lefties due up in the ninth. The southpaw is coming off a 2023 season which saw him put up a 1.52 ERA and 53:15 K:BB over 53.1 innings.

Mayza reprised a key setup role as one of the Blue Jays' top left-handers, but ended up hitting the IL twice in 2022. First, he missed about a month with left forearm inflammation. Then, about two months after his reinstatement, he dislocated his shoulder. Mayza was able to avoid season-ending surgery and surprisingly returned after a near-minimum IL stint. The southpaw threw mostly sinkers (at an 83% clip), which helped him to a 58% groundball rate for the second straight year. He did permit one of the hardest hit balls of the season - a 118.3 mph single - but that's to be expected when you pitch in the AL East and frequently oppose hitters like Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge. Mayza also tallied eight wins, two saves and 16 holds across 63 appearances, making him a solid target in AL-only formats, or leagues that count holds.
