Chas McCormick

Chas McCormick

26-Year-Old OutfielderOF
Houston Astros
2021 Fantasy Outlook
McCormick was a 21st round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft and has steadily progressed through the Astros' minor-league system since. That culminated with his inclusion on both the wild card and ALDS rosters, though he didn't enter a game. While McCormick flashed a bit of power at hitter-friendly Triple-A Round Rock in 2019, he had failed to at any other time in his minor-league career. Instead, his speed is his primary asset - both as a corner outfielder and baserunner. Since reaching Double-A in 2018, McCormick has successfully stolen 28 bases on 36 attempts. McCormick should project to earn some playing time in the Astros' outfield in 2021 - particularly if George Springer and Josh Reddick depart. His long-term fit remains in question however, as he fits best defensively as a corner outfielder, though it's doubtful that he consistently produces enough power to command regular playing time at the position. Goes to bench in Brantley's return
OFHouston Astros
September 29, 2021
McCormick is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
With Michael Brantley (knee) returning from the injured list Wednesday, McCormick will likely have to vie with Jose Siri and Jake Meyers for work in center field moving forward, while Brantley and Yordan Alvarez handle the left-field and designated-hitter spots. McCormick started in five of the past six games, going 6-for-20 with a walk, a run and an RBI.

How does Chas McCormick compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
