2024 Fantasy Outlook
Olson spent the first two months with Triple-A Toledo, compiling an unimpressive 6.38 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 10 starts. However, the Tigers needed a healthy arm and Olson had been pitching better in late May, so he was summoned to make his major league debut in early June. He stayed in The Show the rest of the season, starting in 18 of 21 appearances. Olson didn't miss bats at the elevated rate exhibited in the minors, but his control improved greatly. He throws five pitches, including a 95-mph four-seam fastball and a 95-mph sinker, but his best pitch is a slider he utilized 30.6 percent of the time. Still just 24-years-old, there is a good chance Olson can recapture some of the dominance exhibited in the minors, though only his slider is deemed above average according to Stuff+. Olson has carved out a role in the Tigers staff, but he's not assured of being in the Opening Day rotation. Even so, he's displayed enough to be a fantasy asset, with sneaky upside. Pitches well in no-decision
Olson tossed five scoreless innings but did not factor into the decision in Friday's game against the Yankees. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out five.
ANALYSIS
Olson was sharp against a strong New York lineup, but the Tigers couldn't provide enough run support in the eventual 2-1 loss. Olson has been dialed in over his last four starts, compiling a 1.54 ERA and striking out 25 batters across 23.1 innings, but he has an 0-3 record to show for it. The strong run has at least lowered his season ERA to a tidy 2.70. The righty will look to keep pitching well and hopefully get a bit more run support in his next appearance, which is tentatively set for Wednesday against the Guardians.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Service time manipulation possible?
The Tigers could prevent Olson from reaching Super Two status if he is optioned to Triple-A Toledo for the first few weeks of the season, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
It could work against Olson in cracking the Opening Day rotation, as there are no service time considerations with Matt Manning or Casey Mize, Olson's two competitors for the final two rotation spots. Olson posted a 1.44 ERA last September and has followed it up with a solid showing this spring, but he nonetheless might find himself at Toledo to begin the season.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
If we sort Double-A pitchers with 60-plus innings by K-BB%, Olson ranks fifth, behind the likes of Brandon Pfaadt and Eury Perez and directly ahead of Gavin Stone and Kyle Harrison. Scouts seem split on the quality of his stuff and whether he has enough command to start, so Olson is never ranked near those guys on prospect lists, but it's an interesting profile, given the ease of entry into Detroit's rotation. He is on the 40-man roster and turns 24 in July, so Olson could make his big-league debut this summer, perhaps as a swingman or long reliever.
