NHL Stanley Cup Observations: Speed kills. It really does.

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Speed kills. And it put Shark meat on the menu. Apparently it tastes like chicken. And here I thought Penguins just ate krill. Nope.
  • The HBK line (Hagelin/Bonino/Kessel) has taken on near-cult status in PA. Little wonder with those 50 combined points this postseason. Wow!

  • I used to be a Pierre McGuire fan; I honestly was. I think I was probably one of just two in the Toronto area. Now I've changed my mind. "Clankfest"? And before that, "how's your breath," Phil? I guess you can't teach old dogs new and more relevant tricks. #Painful
  • Nick Bonino -- the pick that got away. Then again, the Sharks never even put him into a game before they traded him away. Now, he and that Amish beard of his would fit right in. So would his skill.
  • I gotta give Jumbo Joe a lot of credit. He's doing anything and everything to try to slow the Pens down. Including popping Sid the Kid right in the chops and playing swords with him in the faceoff circle. Unfortunately, none of it helped in Game 1. Or 2.
  • Speaking of the faceoff circle -- apparently Crosby is "cheating" in there. Seriously. Stop whining. Who DOESN'T cheat in the faceoff circle? It only becomes a problem when you're losing.
  • Hmmmm ... Game 3 will be the first time the flightless birds will have played outside the Eastern time zone since Jan. 18. I wonder if that will slow them down.
  • Rookies are doing it all for the Pens. Wednesday, it was Conor Sheary's turn -- his OT winner was the first in the Cup Final by a rookie in 30 years. Not bad for an undrafted first liner.
  • Is it just me or is it time for us to stop proclaiming West is best? Big and heavy doesn't work if you can't even touch your opponent because they're so bloody fast.
  • I learned something new about shark meat (not that I'm going to even come close to a piece). The meat has be washed A LOT because sharks urinate through their skin. Ewwwwwww ...
