NHL Playoff Observations -- The Night the Lights Went Out in Boston

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Is Zdeno Chara hurt or is he just getting old? Maybe it's a bit of both ... That own goal was unlucky, but that wouldn't have happened a couple years ago.
  • Carey Price is so laid back he might actually be comatose. Don't crack a smile, dude. Don't do it.
  • Is it me or is it just a bit too easy to knock Sidney Crosby off his game, especially since "the concussion?"
  • Dale Weise and Daniel Briere were both recent healthy scratches, but were instrumental in the Habs' success. And they might even have been the team's best duo against Boston. Go figure.
  • I've always liked Devante Smith-Pelly, but I LOVE him after seeing him on the top line with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. He's the right big body to create time and space for the other two. This is a line made in heaven for 2014-15.
  • How many announcers does it take to miss the call on yet another important goal by Patrick Kane? Before long, they won't have one of those classic sound bites they need when he enters the HOF.
  • Back to Sidney Crosby. Sure, he struggled offensively, but why are we so focused on his struggles rather than on the remarkable checking work done by the Rangers' Dominic Moore. Moore all but eliminated Sid from the play over and over and over again. Sharp.
  • Has anyone else noticed that three of the four final teams are #OriginalSix squads?
  • John Gibson looked human in the second period Wednesday. He loses this series and he's in the AHL all next season. He wins and he's Anaheim's starter next season at the ripe young age of 21. Help me understand how the latter makes any sense at all. There are a lot of ruined youngsters littering the league, so why do the same to the next Ken Dryden?
