McGuire told David William Naylor of TSN last week that he intends to retire from professional football to pursue a career in law enforcement.

McGuire revealed the news after he officially became a free agent Feb. 9. The 25-year-old had served as the Blue Bombers' backup quarterback behind Zach Collaros in 2021, making one last-season start and throwing for a touchdown and four interceptions in that contest. Winnipeg has since signed Dakota Prukop to serve as Collaros' understudy heading into the upcoming season.
