Bolts Northwestern for draft
Personal
December 21, 2020
Newsome (lower body) said Monday in an interview with Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports that he'll forgo his remaining eligibility at Northwestern to enter the 2021 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
The junior cornerback was a first-team All-Big Ten performer in 2020, leading the conference in pass breakups (10) while adding 12 tackles and an interception. Newsome was removed from Saturday's Big Ten Championship Game loss to Ohio State with a groin injury, but he said he expects to be 100 percent in 2-to-3 weeks before he begins preparing for the NFL Scouting Combine. As a result of the injury and his decision to leave school, Newsome won't be available Jan. 1 in Northwestern's Citrus Bowl matchup with Auburn.
